Drop-In
Every Tuesday and Friday, midday to 3pm, a team member is always
available to see women, without appointment, to help with any issues or
requests. Women can access free condoms, pregnancy tests and chlamydia and gonorrhoea
screening. This also gives women an opportunity to make
appointments
with other team members and to be signposted to other agencies.
Needle Exchange
A
drugs worker from St Anne's Drug Project is available with or without
an appointment every Friday 12-3pm as part of our drop in service.
Cap fittings
Cap fittings are usually offered twice a month by appointment either at
your place of work or at the Genesis office
This service is offered in partneship with a family planning doctor
from CASH as an alternative to the domestic sponge that is sometimes
used whilst menstruating which can often be the cause of infection and
complications. Using the cap as an alternative reduces these risks and is free.
If you would like to discuss your options in confidence then please
contact the office on the number below or email directing your enquiry
to the adult outreach worker.
A crèche facility is available within the building and is funded by Genesis for women attending any office based services.
The Art GroupGenesis runs an art project to
support women to explore mental health through art. The project aims to build
self-confidence, improve mental health and to introduce a manageable activity
to the often chaotic and unstructured lifestyles of some of our women.
Art therapy provides a space for
individuals to explore thoughts and feelings through art making and
discussion.Individuals do not have to
have previous experience of art making, they are asked to ‘be expressive’ and ‘play’ with the art materials. In the making
part of a session clients will generally work alone so that they can become
fully engrossed in the art making process.Following this the group is asked to come together to share what they
have been making and some discussion of the art work takes place. It is hoped that by offering clients an
alternative means of communication, and in the presence of a therapist, self
reflection will follow.This can lead
to new personal insight and a greater understanding of ones thoughts and
feelings, which can in turn lead to a greater degree of control over ones
behaviour and actions and a feeling of empowerment.
The art group runs every
Thursday. Lunch is available at 12:00 and the group runs from 12:30 – 14:30. If
you would like to be part of the art project, please contact Ann Denton on 0113
243 0036.
