We have two designated young person’s workers that offer specialist support and advocacy to young women aged 21 and under who are groomed and sexually exploited or at risk of becoming sexually exploited. Our 1-1 support can be intensive if required and has no time constraints; we will work with the young person as long as they feel they need the support.
If you are a young person who is involved in risky situations that could lead to someone using you in a sexual way (sexual exploitation), or you would like to know more about our support, you can contact us in confidence by calling the office on the number below or by emailing us using the Contact Us link.
Prevention Work:
We conduct prevention work with young people to raise awareness of the grooming process, sexual exploitation and Internet and mobile phone abuse. The sessions look at specific risks to vulnerable groups, we explore how certain behaviours can affect or abuse us, and what safety measures and rights young people should use to protect themselves from these factors. Genesis advocates the needs of young people to be treated primarily as victims of abuse in line with government guidance (DoH, 2000) and we support local and national agencies to do so.
Definition of Sexual Exploitation:
Sexual exploitation of children can be defined as: ‘children, both male and female, engaging in sexual activities for money, profit, or any other consideration due to coercion or influence by any adult, syndicate or group'. The profit could go either to the child or to any third party involved in the transaction.
Training:
We also provide training to a variety of statutory and voluntary sector groups on the issues facing young people who are involved in or at risk of becoming involved in prostitution or sexual exploitation. If you would like further information on identifying the risk indicators of child sexual exploitation, please see attached download opposite.
